Bridge

Desire, the blue-green pull toward the earth brown
lure her eyes reach out with orbs instead of arms,
the wide net of the light cast to catch him in flight
across the bridge from sun up to sun down, love
where need builds a monument to memory’s city,
O drachma of dreams,

                                         turquoise dreams in a stone
by the rise to the top then down to the other side
stopping on the way to buy a ring from the Navajo
woman alone in the wind waiting maybe for this
biligaana and his Spanish-speaking senora, wench
who pays and puts it on his finger for the duration
of their brief days as one flesh, but if it’s not there
give it away, another is waiting, yet another bridge
